Clinical Intraoral TMJ Massage and Jaw Pain Therapy in London
A Comprehensive Approach to TMJ and Chronic Tension
I specialise in clinical intra oral and myofascial jaw work designed for people struggling with TMJ dysfunction (TMD), clenching, chronic facial tension and upper body tightness.
A Full Body Approach to Jaw Pain
TMJ dysfunction rarely exists in isolation. Although symptoms are often felt most strongly in the jaw itself, tension patterns commonly extend throughout the face, scalp, neck, shoulders and upper back. In some clients, wider postural compensation patterns involving the hips and feet can also contribute to ongoing muscular strain and imbalance.
For this reason, my sessions are designed to work beyond the jaw alone.
TMJ Intra Oral Therapy
TMJ Intra Oral Therapy focuses more specifically on the deeper jaw muscles linked to clenching, restriction and jaw pain, particularly the masseter and pterygoids, which are difficult to access externally. This work helps target the deeper muscular drivers behind jaw dysfunction, bruxism and chronic tension patterns.
Buccal Massage
Buccal Massage works more broadly through the cheeks and facial muscles using techniques both inside and outside the mouth at the same time. It helps release wider facial tension while also supporting facial relaxation, sculpting and lymphatic drainage.
If you would like a more detailed explanation of how Buccal Massage differs from TMJ focused intra oral therapy, you can read my article here:

Over time, I noticed that after deeper jaw release work, the jaw itself often felt significantly looser, but the surrounding face could still feel tight, heavy or tense afterwards. While my external Natural Facelift massage techniques already helped with this, Buccal Massage has been a game changer in helping the entire face relax more fully and cohesively.
Combining both approaches allows me to work not only on deeper jaw release, but also through the wider facial muscles linked to holding patterns, chronic tension and fluid retention. Many clients describe their face feeling lighter, softer and more relaxed overall afterwards.
Head, Neck, Shoulders and Back
Sessions also include focused work through the head, scalp, neck, shoulders and upper back to help reduce the wider muscular overload commonly associated with jaw dysfunction.
Many people living with clenching and chronic facial tension unknowingly brace through the neck and shoulders throughout the day. Tightness through the upper trapezius, scalp, chest and upper back can all influence how the jaw loads and compensates over time.
Where appropriate, treatment may also include the hips and feet, particularly where postural compensation patterns appear to be contributing to ongoing tension.
Lived Experience and a Hands On Approach
Because I live with TMJ dysfunction myself, I understand what it feels like when the jaw never fully settles.
My approach is practical, hands on and focused from the outset. We work directly with the muscular drivers of tension from the first session, without lengthy assessments or clipboards taking over the treatment time.
WHO IS TMJ MASSAGE THERAPY
FOR
You do not have to know the exact diagnosis to be in the right place. Most of my TMJ and upper body clients recognise themselves in at least a few of these.
-
TMJ clicking, popping, or a feeling of catching in the jaw joint
-
Bruxism (clenching or grinding) in the day or at night
-
Jaw pain that comes and goes or never fully settles
-
Tinnitus (regular ringing), ear pressure, or a blocked ear feeling
-
Pain around the temples, behind the eyes, or across the forehead
-
Neck that feels stiff, heavy, or restricted when you turn
-
Shoulders that creep upwards when you are stressed or focused
-
Face that feels tight around the cheeks and brow
-
TMD symptoms that flare around hormones or sleep disruption
-
A general sense that your whole upper body is holding more than it should
If several of these feel familiar, TMJ focused massage and upper body work are likely to be relevant for you.
I work with TMJ dysfunction (TMD) not only as a therapist, but as someone who lives with the condition myself.
TMJ MASSAGE IN LONDON
HOW THIS APPROACH WORKS
TMJ pain rarely has a single cause. TMD can be influenced by joint changes, dental factors, or alignment issues, but it is very often maintained by muscular overload and nervous system stress.
Where my work sits
-
I work specifically with muscle-driven and myofascial TMJ dysfunction.
-
This includes bruxism (clenching and grinding), postural load, overuse, and chronic stress.
-
It is particularly relevant when jaw muscles remain reactive even after scans, splints, or dental input.
Why intraoral TMJ massage matters
-
Intraoral TMJ massage allows direct access to deep jaw muscles.
-
This includes the masseter and pterygoid muscles, which cannot be reached from the outside.
-
These muscles are often involved in clenching, restricted opening, and jaw pain.
-
Working internally also helps address referred tension into the head, neck, and shoulders.
What a first session looks like
-
A short conversation about your symptoms and what you have already tried.
-
You show me where you feel the main tension so we can agree the focus for that session.
-
Treatment starts straight away; you receive your full booked time as hands-on work.
-
I check in throughout so pressure stays effective and safe.
-
You can talk, stay quiet, or move between both.
For your first session, the intra oral part of the treatment is usually around 15 minutes (this is always guided by you).
The rest of the session focuses on the areas that influence jaw pain, including your head, neck, shoulders, upper back and face.
If relevant, we may also work on your hips and feet.
TMJ &
UPPER BODY TREATMENT
OPTIONS
BUCCAL
MASSAGE
This treatment works through the facial muscles both inside and outside the mouth at the same time, helping release tension held within the cheeks, lips, jaw and surrounding facial tissues.
While Buccal Massage is often associated with sculpting and aesthetics, I use it more therapeutically to soften facial holding patterns, encourage lymphatic drainage and help the entire face feel lighter and more relaxed.
I decided to train in Buccal Massage to support my TMJ work. Over time, I noticed that even after deeper jaw release, many clients still carried tightness and heaviness throughout the rest of the face. Buccal Massage has been a game changer in helping the face and jaw relax more fully together.
It can be booked part of our TMJ Intra Oral Therapy or Natural Facelift or added onto other treatments.
SIGNATURE HEAD NECK &
SHOULDER
This work forms the foundation of my TMJ intra oral therapy.
Jaw pain is rarely just about the jaw. Tension through the neck, shoulders, upper back and scalp directly affects how the jaw loads, moves and protects.
This treatment focuses on those surrounding areas to reduce strain on the jaw before, during or instead of intra oral work.
It supports the nervous system and creates the conditions needed for TMJ symptoms to settle rather than repeatedly flare.
It can be booked on its own, or used as part of a TMJ treatment plan.
It is suitable if
• Your TMJ symptoms link into the neck or shoulders
• You hold upper body tension that feeds into jaw pain
• You are not ready for intra oral work yet
• You want ongoing support between TMJ sessions
• Stress or posture worsens your jaw symptoms
Many TMJ clients start here before progressing to more focused jaw work.
NATURAL
FACELIFT
This treatment focuses on the muscles of the face, scalp, jaw and neck that influence facial tone, tension and expression.
Using slow, targeted massage techniques, Natural Facelift Massage works by releasing tightness held within the facial muscles while encouraging circulation, lymphatic drainage and muscle relaxation. As tension softens, the face often appears more lifted, sculpted and refreshed naturally, without injectables or invasive treatments.
Rather than forcing the face upwards superficially, this treatment works more holistically through the deeper muscular and connective tissue patterns that can contribute to heaviness, puffiness and facial fatigue over time.
Clients can also choose to incorporate Buccal Massage techniques within the session. This involves working both inside and outside the cheeks at the same time to release deeper facial tension more thoroughly.
KNOTS / MYOFASCIAL
RELEASE
This work addresses the deeper muscular and connective tissue patterns that contribute to TMJ dysfunction.
Restricted fascia and chronic knots can pull on the jaw from the neck, shoulders, chest and upper back.
Even when the jaw feels like the main problem, these wider patterns often keep TMJ symptoms stuck.
This treatment uses slow, sustained pressure to reduce tension and restore movement without forcing change. It is often used to prepare the body for intra oral TMJ work or to support it when jaw pain feels widespread or difficult to localise.
It is suitable if
• Your TMJ pain feels muscular rather than joint based
• You experience deep knots or pulling around the neck and shoulders
• Your jaw symptoms worsen with stress or posture
• Intra oral work feels too much right now
• You want TMJ support without aggressive techniques
Many clients alternate this work with intra oral TMJ sessions.
