Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) affects approximately 1 in 10 people, with women aged 20–40 being the most commonly affected. Symptoms can range from jaw clicking and stiffness to chronic pain, migraines, and even tinnitus.
Our Signature TMJ Massage Therapy is a specialised, science-backed treatment designed to relieve tension, reduce inflammation, and restore natural jaw movement.
How It Works
We combine intra-oral and external massage techniques to target the masseter, temporalis, and pterygoid muscles—key areas responsible for jaw movement and often the root cause of TMJ pain.
Intra-Oral Massage:
A trained therapist, wearing non-latex gloves, will gently access and massage the medial and lateral pterygoid muscles, which are difficult to reach externally but play a crucial role in jaw function. Studies suggest that manual therapy to these muscles can significantly reduce TMJ pain and improve range of motion (Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2021).
External Jaw & Facial Massage:
Focusing on the masseter and temporalis muscles, we use deep tissue and myofascial techniques to relieve tension, break down adhesions, and enhance blood flow, promoting faster healing.
Beyond the Jaw
Since up to 85% of TMJ sufferers also experience headaches, neck pain, or tinnitus, we integrate our Signature Head, Neck & Shoulder Routine into the treatment. Research has shown that massage therapy for the cervical spine and temporalis muscle can significantly reduce migraine frequency and intensity (Cephalalgia, 2020).
Why Regular TMJ Massage?
Studies indicate that regular manual therapy can reduce TMJ-related pain by 50–70% within 6 weeks (European Journal of Pain, 2022).
